        Documents you are required to provide to Brazilian Customs Authorities

  Consult with the nearest Brazilian Consulate prior to arranging your shipment to Brazil.


√  Depending on the port, documentation will vary.

 

  All copies of documents are required to be notarized at a local Notary Public ².

 

  Make a personal inventory of what you are shipping. Do not depend on the packing list provided my your mover.

 

  Your signature on all customs forms will require "authentication" at a local Notary Public².

 

  Brazilian Customs Authorities can require addtional documentation from you at any time.

 

  All documentation can be forwarded to port offices from any location using the Brazilian Postal service SEDEX (courier service). You will not be required to be present at customs.


  • Copies of your current passport *
  • Copies of your Brazilian I.D.** and valid C.P.F. cards.
  • Detailed inventory in Portuguese with values in R$ and your signature on all pages of the inventory. You should identify new and used items and indicate the make, model and serial number of all electrical/electronic appliances and/or equipment.
  • Copies of proof of arrival in Brazil (airline ticket, e-ticket or equivalent document).
  • Our office will provide you with a power-of-attorney that will allow the customs broker to be your representative at customs. This document will be provided to you when complete details including arrival date of your shipment is known.
  • Returning Brazilian citizens and foreigners holding a permanent visa must show proof of continuous residence overseas for the preceding 12 months ³.
  • Proof of residence in Brazil.

² Notary Publics are widely available in all towns and cities in Brazil.

³ Following documents, in order of preference; a) a certificate of residency issued by the Brazilian Consulate, b) school records, c) employment records, d) utility bills. It is recommended you provide several sources of proof of residence as customs authorities can require additional documentation at any time.

* Foreigners holding a permanent or temporary type V work visa must have the visa stamped on the passport. Foreigners with a tourist visa cannot import used household goods.

** Foreigners entering Brazil for the first time should register with the Federal Police within 30 days of arrival to obtain a "protocol" of an ID card.
